Hello, Duende
Welcome to Duende Software!
This company was founded by Brock Allen and Dominick Baier. We’ve been working together since 2009 on free open-source security software. Probably the most well-known is IdentityServer, which is an OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0 framework for ASP.NET and ASP.NET Core.
In 2020 we decided to make the switch from free open-source to a stronger foundation to work on our software. If you are interested in the long version of the history see here.
What does Duende mean?
As we all know, naming is hard. Naming your own company turns out to be even harder.
For many weeks we failed to come up with a name that was a good fit. So one sleepless night, Brock turned on a documentary about Miles Davis and was impressed with Miles’ passion for his craft. A person interviewed used the Spanish term “Duende” to describe him. What he meant was the heightened state of emotion, expression and authenticity connected with performing your art.
In a sense it’s the spirit infused into the performer; this resonated with us and how we feel about creating software.
What are we doing?
Our main focus will be improving IdentityServer and the larger ecosystem. We have a long list of feature that we want to implement, and many ideas to ensure that it will stay the most flexible and powerful solution for modern authentication.
In addition to providing consulting, training and custom development, we are also working on new product ideas, which we will announce soon.
What’s next?
We will release Duende IdentityServer v5 in January 2021 which will include support for .NET 5 and .NET Core 3.1 as well as exciting new features like automatic key management and resource isolation.
